In 1986 the BBC celebrated the 900th anniversary of the Domesday Book by creating its own Domesday Project.

The information was stored on early forms of laser disc, but the machines to read these discs are no longer manufactured.  Read the story of the recovery of the data here www.atsf.co.uk/dottext/domesday.html

To see the 1986 information for yourself, go to www.domesday1986.com and click on the round graphic showing the UK map.

To get started -

Select the type of connection which you have, then click "Search" (at top left) select "Place Names" then type in your search query (e.g. Greasby) "Search".  As soon as you see the box with the words "More photos" click it (because it disappears later).

This is not a robust system at present, probably because of all the difficulties trying to make different systems compatible.  If it is not working, try again tomorrow.
